You’ll see welders, carpenters and engineers all over London Fashion Week – it’s quite a production after all – but rarely does their “look” make it to the catwalk. Workwear took centre stage at the most recent event, though, as Jigsaw Menswear debuted its Raw State capsule collection, inspired by the distinctive get-ups of those trades. What that means for you is a line of rugged, easy-to-wear clothes.

The well-styled everyday collection includes a nifty cotton-and-linen patch pocket overshirt, a textured long-sleeved Henley top, plain T-shirts with large chest pockets and a vegetable-dyed welder jacket.

One of Coach’s favourite items is the natural-coloured overalls. At £249 these may not be the most practical item for a sport of decorating in, but they sure look good when worn with confidence. Bit much for you? Check out the jeans or joggers instead and enjoy a break from the slim-fit tyranny.

We also took to the Mechanics bag, which is tough enough to be used as a daily whatever-may-come bag, while still sophisticated enough for a weekend city break or overnight stay.

The range combines the natural texture of unfinished woven cotton, twin needle and triple-stitched seams, raw edge patches that reinforce silhouettes and tumbled black alloy trims. Plus, each garment is laundered, double dyed, finished and then laundered again – it all adds up to a unique, raw look that is hard to find anywhere else on the high street.

With workwear being firmly embraced by the style crowd, and everyone else keen on good-looking functional garments, we expect the Raw State collection to be an instant sell-out. Better be quick.
