Es Theory 1.5
One of the many shoes on the market that takes more than a little inspiration from Vans' old-school classic the Half Cab. It does, however, offer a tighter fit that keeps its shape better after some heavy sessioning. It has one truly divisive feature, a fat velcro-fastened strap across the tongue. Some people will like the futuristic tech feel it lends to the shoe, others will argue it makes the Theory 1.5 look too much like pre-schooler's first foray into the world of skate trainers.
DVS Milan CT
The widest of all the shoes here, this is a good choice for the broad-footed boarder. And because it's one of the more minimalist shoes DVS make, it's good for those who like skating in plimsole-style trainers. In the looks department, it's so basic that it won't offend anyone but on the flipside of that, it won't set any skate fashion forums alight either. Perfect for those who want a shoe that offers good board feel and durability without making your feet a talking point for reasons other than the tricks your pulling.
About as pared down a skate shoe as you can get - calling it a plimsole feels like an overstatement. But despite a distinct lack of cushioning and the fact that the upper is made of material that wouldn't last more than a couple of hard skates, it is supremely comfortable and looks ace with a pair of shorts or tighter jeans. If you want a shoe that will make you look the business while you're cruising around Brighton on a longboard buy these, if you're after something that'll protect your foot while you're jumping down big flights of stairs, look elsewhere.
Nike 6.0 Mavrk Mid 2
Recently it's felt as if Nike 6.0 are starting to cater for a more adult market - this simple mid-top, which is considerably less garish than the some of the brand's previous offerings, is a case in point. It is, however, a touch on the chunky side, which won't appeal to everyone. But if handrails and massive drops are your thing, It'll give you all the protection and durability you need. Its killer feature is the zinging blue colourway which will certainly standout at your local spot.
