The greatest reward when you cross the London Marathon finish line is that you can stop running. All that marathon training has paid off and you’re about to get your hands on some well-earned bling—your London Marathon medal.

While the medal will become a treasured souvenir, don’t hang it on the wall straight away. That’s because there are many establishments that will shower you with freebies when you flash your London Marathon medal at them.

Many are found close to the London Marathon route so you can stagger over to them after finishing to claim some free food and drink. Some freebies are available not just on the day of the race but on the days following too.

It’s not always easy to find exactly what freebies are available ahead of time: most are now announced by the individual brands and restaurants on social media in the week of the race. However, some have been confirmed as available, and we’ve also listed a couple that usually crop up.

London Marathon Medal Freebies And Discounts

Pasta Via Deliveroo

Beginning at midnight on Friday and running until 11.59pm on Saturday, you can enter the code RUNPASTA10 on the Deliveroo app to get a £10 voucher to use at one of Pasta Evangelists’ 27 London stores. There’s a limit of 4,000, available on a first-come, first-served basis, and this freebie seems to actually be available to anyone on the Deliveroo app, so move fast to secure a pasta meal to help you carb-load.

Medal Engraving At Sports Direct

Take your medal to Sports Direct’s flagship store on Oxford Street between Sunday 23rd and Tuesday 25th April and you can get it engraved. You can also get a lace tag engraved with a message from your loved ones to wear on your shoes during the race, a service available at the Oxford Street store from Wednesday 19th until Saturday 22nd April.

Bath Salts And Massage Bar From Lush

One of the highlights of any marathon race day is the bath afterwards, where you can reflect on your achievements while soaking your tired muscles. Flash your medal in one of Lush’s London stores on Sunday (Oxford Street, Paddington, Waterloo or Victoria) and you’ll get an epsom salt bath cube to upgrade your post-race soak, plus a magnesium massage bar to use on your aching legs.

Stamped Race Poster At Tracksmith

Head to Tracksmith’s London store on Chiltern Street in Marylebone and you can get a commemorative race poster stamped with your London Marathon time. Poster stamping is available 2pm to 5pm on race day and then 10am to 6pm on Monday, while stocks last. While you’re there it’s also worth checking out Tracksmith’s range of limited-edition London Marathon gear, which is far from free but makes for a great and useful souvenir from the race.

Burger And Beer At Bill’s

Restaurant chain Bill’s is offering runners a free burger and a beer if they come into any of its London branches on race day. You can book on the website to guarantee a table or wander in with your fingers crossed and hope there’s space. The four Bill’s restaurants closest to the route are found in Soho, Covent Garden, Victoria and Clink Street (Bankside).

Vegan Meatballs At LEON

LEON is offering runners a free vegan Moroccan meatballs box on Saturday and Sunday of marathon weekend. You have to use the LEON Club app to redeem the offer by entering the code “RUNBABYRUN” at checkout in the discount box, and you can only use the code once. When you go to redeem the offer you might need to show your race number. Supporters can also get a free hot drink when spending over £5 using the app by entering the code “COFFEECHEER” at checkout.

A Burger At MEATLiquor

Another fixture of the freebies calendar: you can usually head to any of MEATLiquor’s London locations on race day and your medal will entitle you to any burger on the menu, which includes vegetarian and vegan options. The nearest restaurant is MEATLiquor W1 on Margaret Street, near Oxford Circus, which is a little over a mile from the meet and greet area in Horse Guards Parade, but the offer is available at any of MEATLiquor’s nine London branches. Anyone who has volunteered at the London Marathon is also eligible for a free burger—just show your badge.

The Real Greek

The good people at The Real Greek have been dishing up free meals to London Marathon runners for years, and 2023 is no exception. Flash your medal to get a free Greek Plate (vegan options available) on any day from Sunday 23rd to Thursday 27th April. The offer is for dine-in customers only, but can be used at any branch including those outside London. The nearest one to the marathon route is in Covent Garden.

Pizza At Franco Manca

This is not confirmed yet, but it’s my favorite freebie and one that seems to crop up reliably each year. I’m hoping to will it into existence for 2023 by mentioning it here. Usually you can take your medal into any Franco Manca restaurant on the Sunday of the race, or the Monday after, and get yourself a free pizza. If that’s the case in 2023 you can expect an announcement on Franco Manca’s social media channels, so keep an eye on those.

Boulevard Brasserie

Runners can get a free burger on race day at this Covent Garden restaurant. Stroll in and flash your medal to get the burger—it’s worth booking online to avoid disappointment, since it’s a 15-20 minute walk from The Mall, depending on how fast you’re able to walk after the marathon.
