Garmin makes the best running watches and the best sports watches money can buy – we know because we’ve reviewed nearly the entire range plus the competition. The brand has produced a wide range of devices that has something for everyone, including discreet fitness trackers, hybrid watches and fitness smartwatches.

They don’t come cheap, but there are often deals to be found on the best Garmin watches. Mostly that’s because Garmin has well-established lines, and once a new generation is released, the older model has its price reduced. While you can expect improvements if you stump up the cash for the newest watch, the next newest will be a more than capable device. You can read our latest reviews to understand the key differences – often we dedicate articles comparing the generations to help you choose between them.

Prices will always drop during big sales events like Black Friday or Amazon Prime Day, and you may even find deals on the latest devices. However, there are some models that are consistently discounted somewhere throughout the year.

We’ve picked these out below, and our clever widget collects the best prices on those watches from all over the web, so if you want a Garmin deal right here, right now, you’ll be sure to find something that suits.

When big events like Black Friday roll around, we’ll update this page regularly to showcase specific deals worth highlighting, but we’ll also pick out great deals throughout the year, especially those on products we didn’t expect to be discounted.

GPS battery life: 13 hours

Reasons to buy

Each training session will appear on the watch and let you know how fast to run and how long for. If you want the cheapest Forerunner watch you can get to track your runs reliably, then the Forerunner 45 is the one to look for in sales, but the Forerunner 55 is an upgrade that usually costs only a little more.

Garmin Venu 2

Specifications

RRP: $399.99 / £299.99
Battery life: 11 days
GPS battery life: 22 hours

Reasons to buy

+
Light, comfortable and stylish
+
Responsive touchscreen
+
Extensive exercise tracking

Reasons to avoid

-
Lacks advanced health tracking
-
Limited app store

The Venu 2 has the look of a smartwatch thanks to its elegant design and AMOLED screen, and it has useful smart features like music storage and NFC payments, but it also offers Garmin’s superior sports tracking. The Venu 2 was launched back in April 2021 so it’s now often found in sales. Since then, Garmin launched the Venu 2 Plus which has added a few nice-to-have features: there’s a built-in microphone and speaker so you can make phone calls and connect to your phone’s virtual assistant, and in a recent development it also allows you to take an ECG reading.

Garmin Fenix 6 Pro and Garmin Fenix 7X

Specifications

RRP: $699.99 / £599.99
Battery life: 14 days
GPS battery life: 36 hours

Reasons to buy

+
Same design as Fenix 7
+
Maps and music
+
Outstanding training analysis

Reasons to avoid

-
Not the best GPS accuracy
-
No training readiness

The Fenix 6 range was superseded by the Fenix 7 in early 2022, but the older watch still stands up as one of the best sports watches available. The Pro versions have music and maps and although they don’t have all of Garmin’s latest training analysis features such as readiness, the insights available on the Fenix 6 Pro are still useful. Probably the most notable difference compared with the Fenix 7 is that the Fenix 6 Pro doesn’t have dual-band GPS, and the GPS tracking on the watch was not always reliably accurate during our testing. It’s also worth looking out for the smaller Fenix 6S Pro and larger Fenix 6X Pro in sales.

Garmin Instinct 2 Solar

(Image credit: Nick Harris-Fry / Future)

Specifications

RRP : $349.99 / £389.99
Battery life: 28 days
GPS battery life: 30 hours

Reasons to buy

+
Distinctive, durable design
+
Long battery life
+
Range of colours

Reasons to avoid

-
Small screen
-
Limited training analysis
-
No dual-band GPS

The rugged Instinct 2 is a long-lasting adventure watch with excellent sports tracking. It comes in a wide range of colours and there is also a solar version of the watch which can significantly increase the already impressive battery life of the watch in sunny conditions. Similarly priced watches in the Forerunner range will suit runners and triathletes better, with more training analysis and screens that are clearer to read during runs and rides, but the Instinct 2 offers more battery life and a hardier design. It was reduced in the 2022 Black Friday sales so it’s worth keeping an eye out for deals.

Reasons to buy

+
Music storage
+

The Vivoactive 4 is an older watch and one that’s always reduced from its RRP, but still a prime option for those who want a Garmin smartwatch that’s cheaper than the Venu 2. It doesn’t have the AMOLED screen of the Venu 2, but otherwise the Vivoactive 4 offers the same smart features and capable sports tracking at a much lower price.

No built-in GPS
-
Short battery life

The Lily offers a more elegant experience than most Garmin watches, and is designed for women who want their activity tracker to look like a piece of jewellery. The stylish screen displays all the stats the watch tracks in a subtle manner, and it also shows notifications and appointments on your calendar. +

+
Small and comfortable

Reasons to avoid

-
Not an AMOLED screen
-
Limited app store

The Venu Sq Music is an older watch that’s often reduced, especially since the Venu Sq 2 came out in mid-2022. The newer watch has an AMOLED screen, which is a big upgrade, but the original Venu Sq still has a bright colour display and offers music storage alongside Garmin’s excellent native sports tracking.

Garmin Swim 2

Garmin Swim 2

Specifications

RRP: $249 / £219.99

+
Open-water and pool modes
+
A week’s worth of battery life

Reasons to avoid

The Swim 2 is the best dedicated swimming watch you can get, serving both indoor and open-water swimmers well. If you do more than swim then one of Garmin’s multisport watches will serve you better, but if you stick to the water then hunting down a deal on the Swim 2 is worth doing, since it’s always reduced to well below its RRP.
